Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said:
“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ "
First rule of carrying out any task - can you finish it? And the greater the task, the more important it is to consider the cost. Sure, it may be OK if you don't finish painting a room, but what about scaling Mount Everest? Going to the moon (or to Mars)? The greatest and most noble task any of us will ever encounter is being a disciple of Jesus. Maybe you aren't a Christian, or maybe you are a Christian but have never considered what it truly means to call yourself a "little Christ" - either way, let me tell you that it comes at the cost of your very life. You cannot be halfway invested into Jesus. He will touch EVERY aspect of yourself to make your soul into the very best version of a change maker for the kingdom of God. There's no turning back if you place your heart on the alter of the Living God. Not only will you find yourself falling deeper in love with Him, but He will also begin to transplant His heart - His hopes and dreams and great plans for humanity - into your being. It is not an easy task. It comes at great cost. But the rewards, oh the rewards! They are indescribable. I dare you to find out for yourself, the other-worldly peace, joy, and wholeness that comes when you sell your soul back to your one true Love, the Creator in whose hands you always belonged.
